Study, then find out what you actually know

RecallCoach does not replace Brainscape or Anki. It is the step after them. You have read the deck and it all felt familiar - that feeling is not knowledge. A formative assessment is the low-stakes rehearsal that tells you, and your teacher, what is still missing while there is time to fix it.

  1. Bring a deck from Brainscape, Anki, or a CSV.
  2. RecallCoach turns the cards into real questions, not just fronts and backs.
  3. The room answers together on the TV, or a student practices alone.
For teachers

Run it as a party or as a quiet test. The proctor decides whether answers are ever revealed, and whether phones are in the room at all.

Apple TV

RecallCoach runs on the big screen at the front of the class. The Apple TV app is coming to the App Store. Until then the same room works in any browser.

Questions about RecallCoach

What is RecallCoach?

RecallCoach is a formative assessment tool for classrooms. It imports flashcard decks, turns each card into a question, and runs those questions as one live quiz that a whole class answers at the same time. A deck arrives either as an Anki .apkg export, uploaded directly and unpacked in the background, or as a two-column question-and-answer CSV, which is what Brainscape produces. Either way the decks students already study from become assessment material without being retyped.

How do students answer the questions?

The quiz runs on two screens. A classroom TV or projector shows the current question, the room code and a QR code; each student joins on their own phone and answers there. By default the phone shows only the answer controls, so the question itself is read off the TV. The TV shows aggregate progress only, never a per-student score, and each student reads their own score on their own phone.

Can RecallCoach be used for an exam rather than for practice?

Yes. A proctor can open a room with answer reveals turned off entirely, which is exam mode: the phase that discloses the correct answer never happens, so no key, no per-question feedback and no correct-answer tally reaches a phone or the TV while the test is open.
